As a research engineer in the Navy, I have to write technical reports
containing engineering equations. In an effort to simplify this writing
task, I purchased WordPerfect 4.2 and a Hewlett-Packard Series II LaserJet
with the J and K cartridges and DA soft fonts. To switch to the Math 7 and
8 fonts and create the equations, I have been using embedded printer command
codes. Needless to say, the codes are difficult to edit without printing
out the document. I have also reviewed the equation generation program
Exact, version 3.0, and found that it does not always use the high-quality
Hewlett-Packard fonts, but occasionally substitutes a lower quality font.
I was very pleased to see that WordPerfect 5.0 would have a viewing
screen which would display 1500 symbols. But now that I have 5.0, I don't
know which characters will print with these fonts. As a result of this
dilemma, I generated a WordPerfect 5.0 file which contains all of the eleven
character sets (pages 471 to 474 of the WP 5.0 manual). Wpchar.wp contains
the character sets printed in Normal, Superscript, Subscript, and Italics
fonts. By printing this file, you can see what characters are available on
your printer.
